After moving from councillor to deputy mayor and finally mayor of Horton Township during the last term, Daina Proctor says she’s looking forward to having just one title going forward.
Proctor, who was re-elected to lead the township last week, says the past four years were marked by a particularly strong council team. She’s equally optimistic about the next term, as returning councillors Glen Campbell and Doug Humphries welcome new perspectives from incoming members Margaret Whyte and Steve Osipenko.
With orientation already underway, Proctor is beginning discussions with her fellow councillors about committee responsibilities and priorities for the new term. One proposed change is the introduction of a committee-of-the-whole structure, which she says will encourage better engagement and communication around important community issues.
Other early priorities include making township meetings more transparent for residents and strengthening collaboration with local police on safety concerns along Highways 17 and 60, as well as speeding within the community.
Horton’s next council term will officially begin with its swearing-in ceremony on November 16.
