Temperatures across the Ottawa Valley were roughly in line with normal values for the month of October this year, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The agency’s latest monthly weather review says temperatures across the region were within one degree of their normal values last month.
The same is true for much of eastern Ontario, while the rest of the province saw slightly warmer than normal temperatures.
Meanwhile, in terms of precipitation, the agency says October saw near-normal amounts across eastern Ontario, including the valley, but dryer-than-usual conditions elsewhere.
Some parts of the Valley – especially those closest to the Quebec provincial border – experienced slightly dryer conditions than the rest, but generally the region saw precipitation values between 125 and 75 per cent of the expected normal amount for October.
Ottawa – the closest city with detailed data included in the report – experienced an average temperature of 8.2 degrees, exactly matching its normal value for the month. In terms of precipitation, the city saw 65 millimetres of rainfall, or 74 per cent of its normal value.
Looking ahead to November, the agency expects warmer-than-normal temperatures across the entire province, but says precipitation outlooks are less certain.
“Above-normal precipitation is favoured in southwestern Ontario and parts of northwestern Ontario,” the report reads.
“Below-normal precipitation is favoured in the northeast near the Quebec border, while no strong signal is apparent elsewhere. More recent outlooks, however, show increasing confidence in above normal precipitation for northeastern Ontario.”
