It’s been one week since the election and everything is settling down. Arnprior’s council is mostly the same, aside from the addition of Alexis Young, taking over from Ted Strike.
What does this mean for the four years in Arnprior?
Once council is sworn in, they’ll be heading right into discussing budget for the upcoming fiscal year and as re-elected mayor Lisa McGee tells us, there’s no down time at all.
Incumbent McGee narrowly won the seat by a margin of 39 votes over runner up, Bill Griese, which is extremely close in election terms. McGee says she hears the message from voters loud and clear. She hopes to focus on communication to ensure everyone is getting the full story, making sure Arnprior keeps it’s small town charm, while the town grows in size and population. McGee also hears the safety concerns about the sidewalks on Baskin and says the town has done everything in their power to move that project closer to the front.
And then, of course, managing expenses and municipal spending to ensure council knows how money is spent.
Arnprior is welcoming a new face to council, Alexis Young. She’s new to town and new to council and McGee says she looks forward to hearing the new ideas Young brings to council.
Now moving forward, we’re waiting in anticipation on what could be coming to town in the new shopping development McGee mentioned during the mayoral candidates meeting. She says she’s limited in what she can share.
We’ll be checking in with the mayor and council for any updates as they come available in this development.
Only time will tell how this edition of council will handle the next four years.
The next election date is October 28th, 2030.
