Advanced voting is under way and it’s a mad dash to election day. WOW FM reporters reached out to candidates running in the Ramsay Ward in Mississippi Mills, to give them the opportunity to share their platform with you, the voter.
In this article, you will be able to read the platform of Bev Holmes running for one of the seats in the Ramsay ward in the Township of Mississippi Mills. This is her submission.
Bev Holmes Ramsay Ward Candidate Mississippi Mills
Seeking to represent Ramsay Ward residents for a third term. Experience gained as an active farmer, Registered Nurse (both front line and administration, now retired) has been beneficial when making decisions at the Council table.
My ideology best fits into the category of a moderate who avoids extremes of both the left and right with no political affiliations. I make decisions on what is best for the majority of residents, with information gathered from reliable sources.
My Platform:
Listen to concerns of Residents.
Advocate for Resident consultation
Key concerns raised by Residents are road conditions and affordability. The poor condition of roads and road allowances, particularly gravel roads is the main complaint of Residents. Speeding and other road-safety concerns are also common. On the other hand, residents are genuinely concerned about tax increases and wonder whether the municipality’s long-term infrastructural plans are affordable. I agree with them. We can’t afford to build major infrastructure projects without support from higher levels of government. These interconnected issues require Council to balance affordable property taxes with the cost of capital projects.
My Priorities:
Improving Ramsay roads and road allowance, in particular gravel roads
Advocate for expanded ways to support the agricultural community; a key economic driver of Mississippi Mills.
Advocate for access to public transportation or ride sharing programs for all Residents of Mississippi Mills.
Collaborate with community members who recognize Tait MacKenzie and James Naismith as national treasures and want to ensure their legacy remains at the Mill of Kintail Museum.
I believe in applying the principles of respectful debate, co-operation, and consensus to reach solutions. I respect my constituents and my Council colleagues. If I am re-elected, I will carry that commitment into the next four years.
