Advanced voting is under way and it’s a mad dash to election day. WOW FM reporters reached out to candidates running for seats around the council table in Arnprior, to give them the opportunity to share their platform with you, the voter.
In this article, you will be able to read the platform of Alexis Young running for a seat on council in the Town of Arnprior. This is her submission.
My name is Alexis Young. I’m running for Arnprior Council because my friends, their children, and I are the future of Arnprior. Municipal governments need a diversity of voices, which includes a diversity of ages and lived experiences, and I plan to bring that to the table. I believe Arnprior can grow stronger without losing what makes it special, and I want to keep it that way for generations to come.
My commitment to Arnprior is to focus on growth that supports the community; growth should make Arnprior stronger and more connected — not just bigger. Too often, new development pays for itself once, then costs the town — and you — for decades in roads and services, producing isolated subdivisions instead of real neighbourhoods. I will push for a fiscal impact review so council plans with facts, not guesswork.
Smart growth only works if people can actually get around the town we’re building. Getting around Arnprior shouldn’t depend on whether you drive. I’m not anti-car — this is about making room for every way people get around, and I’ll push to see the Town’s Transportation Master Plan implemented so accessibility isn’t an afterthought.
Additionally, I plan to look at our unique spaces because the Gillies Grove old-growth forest, our wetlands, the rivers running through town, and all our parks and green spaces aren’t just scenery — they’re part of what holds this community together, and they deserve protection before they’re threatened, not after.
Finally, I want to continue and build on the work current and past councillors have already started, reviewing the services residents tell us matter most, and investing where the need is real.
