Renfrew’s longest-serving fire chief is looking to return to public service as one of its next members of town council.
Guy Longtin’s past experience working for the town gives him a unique perspective on how to work with different styles of municipal administration and budgeting.
While practical planning for roads and infrastructure and clarity on how town funds are spent are among his top priorities, Longtin’s main concern is the same as many of the people and families he’s spoken to on the campaign trail: taxes.
Keeping tax rates down will be a challenge that the town needs to overcome, and Longtin says he’s ready to work with his fellow councilmates to make it happen if elected.
Longtin also believes that Renfrew’s growth and development will need to put commercial and industrial concerns first to create a larger pool of businesses to carry more of the tax burden rather than residents.
Guy Longtin is one of ten candidates running for six at-large council seats in Renfrew, alongside Kyle Cybulski, Hayley Heaslip, Bruce Rozycki, John McDonald, Sandi Heins, Clint McWhirter, Kate Windle, Andrew Dick, and Scott Miller.
