Advanced voting is under way and it’s a mad dash to election day. WOW FM reporters reached out to candidates running for seats around the council table in Greater Madawaska, to give them the opportunity to share their platform with you, the voter.
In this article, you will be able to read the platform of Lois Thomson running for a seat on council in the Township of Greater Madawaska. This is her submission.
It is a pleasure to serve the people of Griffith & Matawatchan as your Councillor. Most of my, and your goals for this term have been achieved, and plans are in place to accomplish much more.
I will continue to ensure we plan wisely in a changing world to preserve the natural environment and small town, rural feel of Griffith & Matawatchan, while encouraging existing and new businesses, attractions, and increased connectivity.
Every day, at every meeting of Council and on the Library Board, I push to ensure that Ward 3 is given the attention and services we deserve, and that the Township understands our unique needs, strengths, and the value we contribute.
You helped create that understanding by completing the many surveys, attending info sessions, town halls, and participating in workshops. Your input will shape the future of health care through the Health Hub initiative. It allowed us to get a grant for the SALC seniors program and apply for a similar grant for families. The Greater Madawaska Public Library and Learning Centre is providing more services here through increased digital offerings and is poised to bring more cultural programming here.
We developed a more robust Emergency and Evacuation Plan and Fire Master Plan. We now have a full time Fire Chief, and more volunteer firefighters with improved training and equipment, including a boat and ATV to access remote and waterfront properties. We took action to increase safety on Hwy 41, the Griffith Mile, but there is more work to do.
Our taxes are among the lowest in the County. A solid strategy, efficient asset management, and the use of grants allowed us to accomplish a lot in four years that reflects our values and improves life in this amazing place we call home. Please go to LoisThomson.com for more.
