Plans are in place to bring the timeless classics of the silver screen back for another run inside Renfrew’s O’Brien Theatre.
Theatre manager Chris Kyte is hoping to bring their “Golden Age of Hollywood” matinee series back some time in November after its successful debut over this past winter, giving the community a chance to relive some of Tinseltown’s all-time greatest productions in the now 96-year-old building that likely ran them at the time of their original release.
The idea to bring these classic movies back into the theatre is due in part to local seniors’ groups and dementia programs, who reached out to the O’Brien for something that could act as a nostalgic comfort for older residents and help them remain social and active in the community.
Kyte says their biggest need for the program is getting seniors from the likes of Bonnechere Manor or the Carefor facilities in Pembroke, and she’s hopeful that there may be a few community sponsors willing to help arrange transportation to and from the theatre.
They could also use a hand in letting people know what’s happening.
Each screening is open to all ages, especially younger viewers interested in discovering classic movies. Show times may run outside the theatre’s usual schedule, so check with O’Brien regularly for updates.
