Clint McWhirter hopes to use his experience as a three-term town councillor to earn another four years helping to guide the town of Renfrew.
After being part of the checks and balances implemented in the wake of overruns from Ma-te-Way and town hall renovations, McWhirter says there is still room for improvement to streamline the town’s budget to eliminate overlap and find cost savings so that Renfrew’s majority-residential tax base can actually afford to make use of future improvements to the town.
Roads and infrastructure are still a major focus for McWhirter, but he says dwindling help from higher levels of government requires increased caution at the municipal level.
He has also served as the town’s representative for Renfrew and Area Seniors’ Home Support and the Golden Age Activity Centre, a position that has shown him that the town needs to direct more of what funds will be available to seniors’ programming and support.
One unique project that McWhirter would like to go back to once the town’s financial situation begins to calm was the waterfront beautification concept along the Bonnechere River that was originally meant to be the current council’s signature addition before plans were shelved due to complications with the Ma-te-Way expansion project.
Clint McWhirter is one of ten candidates running for six at-large council seats in Renfrew, alongside Hayley Heaslip, John McDonald, Sandi Heins, Kate Windle, Bruce Rozycki, Guy Longtin, Andrew Dick, Scott Miller, and Kyle Cybulski.
