On Monday, October 5th, an unexpected power outage left multiple municipalities and thousands in the dark.
Initial reports on the day speculated that over 5,500 people were without power, however, as HydroOne Spokesperson Tiziana Baccega Rosa tells us, after investigation it was found to be more than double the estimate.
As Baccega Rosa told us, a large tree fell across two electrical lines supplying certain areas of the valley, causing the outage impacting over 14,000 people.
Once HydroOne received notice that the outage had occurred, the organization was able to restore nearly half of the customers by re-routing power from other areas. Crews were dispatched immediately and were able to remove the tree, complete the repairs and restore the rest of the impacted population that evening.
Baccega Rosa recommends residents to have a kit prepared for the possibility of power outages in any situation. The kits should have enough supplies to keep you and your family comfortable in the situation that you may be without power for 72 hours.

All impacted customers were restored by 4:15 p.m.
