Residents in Arnprior and across the Ottawa Valley will be called upon to use this Wednesday, September 30, to listen, learn, and reflect.
Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, created as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action to mobilize all levels of government, local organizations, and individuals to recognize the legacy of Canada’s residential school system, as well as survivors, their families, and impacted communities.
In commemoration, township officials will host a flag raising at 9:30 am outside Town Hall, 105 Elgin Street West.
In nearby Mississippi Mills, the community’s annual Truth and Reconciliation Vigil will take place in Almonte’s Riverfront Park. The event will start with a reflective walk at 6:30 pm, followed by guest speakers, readings, and special guests.
A ceremony will also be held in Renfrew, with the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation inviting the community to join them at their Cultural Centre at Ma-te-Way Park to honour survivors and celebrate Indigenous culture and traditions.
