A century and a half of education and thousands of students have passed through it’s doors.
The Arnprior District High School (ADHS) is celebrating 150 years of their first original brick building being erected on Ottawa Street.
The history of ADHS goes back to 1864, when then principal Dugald McNab coached students of Arnprior Public School in Latin. The school moved multiple times through the community before landing at it’s current site in 1875. The school dawned the name “Arnprior Grammar School” until transitioning to Arnprior District High School in 1950.
The event kicks off Saturday, September 19th at 10am, with an official welcome at 11am and the Rapids Athletics Skills Challenge following.
The day will be filled with school tours, a volleyball and euchre tournament, food trucks and more! A time capsule station will also be available.
ADHS currently educates roughly 700 students from 12 different municipalities.
In a press release, ADHS Principal, Samantha Noack says “September 19th is a chance for the people who made those years happen to come back and see it for themselves, and for our current students to meet the alumni who sat in the same classrooms they do now.”
