Canadian Armed Forces members are ready to test their mettle in and around Garrison Petawawa this weekend.
The 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group will host its 43rd annual Iron Warrior competition at the base and along some routes within town on Friday, August 28, and Saturday, August 29.
The event tests the physical and mental resilience of its competitors, sending them on a ruck march, canoe portage, canoe paddle, and a final ruck march to cross the finish line.
Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services calls the event an “outstanding opportunity for soldiers to take on a significant personal challenge while also fostering meaningful community engagement.”
Some routes on Garrison Petawawa and in the Town of Petawawa will have traffic control in place from 6:00 am until around 4:00 pm both days to ensure the safety of participants.
The military asks the public to be mindful of the competitors during the event and that boaters in the area follow all directions from safety boats positioned along the Ottawa River.
