Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope became a tradition throughout Canada and now it’s your chance to add on to his legacy.
Arnprior’s annual Terry Fox Run returns this year in a whole new location! Happening, Sunday, September 20th at 10 a.m., this edition of the run will take place at McLean Ave Park with three route options available.
Runners, walkers and riders will have the choice of a 1km, 3km or 5km route in the park and surrounding area.
Denise Johnston, Organizer of the Arnprior Terry Fox Run tells us they had to move due to construction.
Opportunities are still available to become a volunteer or a participant in this year’s run. The organizing committee is looking for help as runners might need some help navigating the new route. If anyone is interested, you can call Johnston at 613-620-1333 or email her at terryfoxrunarnprior@outlook.com
For anyone looking to participate, you can visit the Terry Fox Foundation’s website and sign up there or visit the Arnprior run Facebook page.
Johnston knows that it’s nearly every weekend a fundraiser is going on, but she says any help at all is greatly appreciated.
Starting his Marathon of Hope in April of 1980, Fox hoped to raise a dollar for every Canadian during his journey, a total of $24 million. Unfortunately, just outside Thunder Bay, Fox had to stop his run as the cancer had spread to his lungs. In the end, donations surpassed the $24 million mark. He passed away the following year. Since then, more than a billion dollars have been raised globally through the Terry Fox Foundation.
The committee looks forward to another amazing run this year and they hope to see you out there.
