Significantly faster than normal water flows are being noticed along the Mississippi River.
The Mississippi River Power Corporation is asking residents to exercise extreme caution around waterways throughout the Mississippi watershed.
Water flows are 450% higher than normal and continue to rise. This causes currents to be significantly stronger than expected and may be in present in unexpected areas.
The Township of Mississippi Mills said on their website that specific areas of concern are:
- The stretch between the bridge at the Almonte Old Town Hall and the Upper Falls
- The boat launch area at Metcalfe Geoheritage Park
As such, the dock at park is currently closed until water flows return to a safe level.
