Softball players took to the diamond at McNab Centre Park for a pair of charity games, all in support of the Arnprior & District Food Bank.
Ottawa Valley Slopitch held the first of its kind Players vs. Umpires and Battle of the Sexes charity softball games on July 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
NSA Canada Convenor Kevin Cameron says it’s an idea that came about thanks to a similar event earlier in the year.
During their first game, under the sweltering 30°C heat of McNab/Braeside township, players could “bribe” the umpires to help the games lean in their direction, all in support of the food bank.
Thanks to the success of the event raising $300 and dozens of meals, Cameron hopes it returns to the Ottawa Valley next year.
