Barr Farms in Douglas has been owned and operated by five generations of the Barr family since its creation in the 1860s, producing cash crops like hay and straw that have been shipped globally to feed livestock around the world, as well as Black Angus beef cattle.
Fourth generation Tom Barr remains fully involved with the daily work in the fields alongside his daughters, including Jenna, who has returned from a career in education to learn the business while raising her family on the farm with husband Martin.
As the fifth generation becomes a bigger part of the day-to-day operations and management of Barr Farms, Jenna says they are hopeful to continue relying on Tom’s lifetime of wisdom and experience to lead the way.
