Motorists across Renfrew County can expect road closures, lane reductions and detours over the coming months as several major construction projects get underway or continue through the summer.
The County of Renfrew released its latest monthly construction update Thursday, highlighting new projects beginning in July and August, ongoing road and bridge work, and several projects that have recently wrapped up.
Among the projects starting this month, work on County Road 653 (Chenaux Road) in Whitewater Region begins July 3. As part of the project, the road will be closed between Highway 17 and Magnesium Road for approximately two weeks to allow for a culvert replacement. A signed detour will be in place before the road reopens to single-lane traffic under alternating traffic control for the remainder of the project. Construction is expected to continue until late August.
Construction is also scheduled to begin July 6 on County Road 26 (Doran Road) in Laurentian Valley Township, between Forest Lea Road and Highway 17. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane at times while work continues through late August.
Bridge rehabilitation projects are also planned later this summer. Work on the Danny Constant Bridge in Bonnechere Valley Township is expected to begin Aug. 1 and continue through late September. The bridge and roadway will remain closed throughout construction, with no pedestrian access available.
A second bridge project on O’Grady Bridge in Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township is scheduled to begin Sept. 1 and continue until late October. The bridge will also remain closed to all traffic during construction, with signed detours provided.
Several road improvement projects are already underway across the county.
Construction continues on River Road and Castleford Road in Horton Township, with completion expected in early August. Witt Road in Laurentian Valley Township is also under construction through early September, with periodic multi-day road closures planned during the project.
Rockingham Road in Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Township remains under construction until late July, while work on Calabogie Road in Greater Madawaska and McNab/Braeside townships will resume in mid-August following the completion of brushing, culvert replacements and planned asphalt patching in July.
Motorists using White Lake Road should also expect significant impacts. Work on the Waba Creek Bridge began July 2 and includes a full six-week road closure between June 29 and Aug. 28, with detours in place. The overall project is expected to finish in early September.
Meanwhile, construction continues on the Broomes Creek Culvert and Dam on County Road 7 near Foresters Falls, where the road remains closed to all traffic until work is completed later this month.
The county also reported several projects have recently reached substantial completion, including work on Storyland Road in Horton Township, completed July 2. Projects on Wilno South Road, Siberia Road and Foymount Road have also been completed, with only minor finishing work and line painting remaining.
County officials are reminding motorists to slow down, obey posted signage and use extra caution when travelling through active construction zones this summer.
