Maybe you’ve never ventured beyond the bounds of the Town Where the Rivers Meet to attend a neighbouring community’s Canada Day festivities? Perhaps this is your year to find out what celebrations in Renfrew are all about?
Town of Renfrew Programs Supervisor Janyne Fraser says preparations for this Wednesday, July 1, have gone well as staff partner with the public to pack a full day of fun and excitement into Ma-te-Way Park.
The day starts at 10:00 that morning with a classic car show hosted by Ken Riopelle and the brand new Indigenous Artisan Fair inside the myFM Centre put on by the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation and continues right through to sundown.
A few offsite events are also part of the celebrations; guests can enjoy a guided tour of the Bonnechere River trail starting at the entrance in the Hunter Gate subdivision, and the Renfrew Lions Club will host a 50/50 Bingo at the Renfrew Legion.
After a few years of experimenting with the format, Fraser believes Canada Day in Renfrew has hit its stride and stands out in the Ottawa Valley thanks to just how much interest residents have shown in being part of the fun.
While the community is encouraged to come early and stay late, town staff are asking visitors to plan ahead to avoid heavy traffic on Ma-te-Way Park Drive.
