Students at Almonte and District High School recently joined an initiative to help parents dealing with perinatal loss.
Almonte General Hospital is the regional birthing centre for Eastern Renfrew County, West Ottawa and Mississippi Mills, but sadly, not all infants survive.
Together with AGH, the Souls Nest and the Mississippi River Health Alliance, the school’s construction and art programs donated a number of Memory Boxes to the hospital’s Obstetrical Department to house memories of babies lost during an incredibly difficult time.
Jennifer Thompson, Founder of The Souls Nest, received a memory box following the loss of her twin daughters more than 20 years ago. It was she who approached the school with the idea for the project.
Thompson hopes the gift will provide what comfort it may to parents in similar situations.
