Here’s what’s going on in Arnprior and area over the next 48 hours.
Arnprior:
Today: Arnprior 10 Book Club is the daytime book club for seniors, established as a collaboration between the library and the Seniors Active Living Centre. Members meet monthly on the first Tuesday of the month from September to June. The club is currently at capacity, but if you would like to add your name to the list, please send us an email and we will let you know when a space becomes available. library@arnpriorlibrary.ca
A Scrabble Club Meet-Up happens from Noon-2PM at the Arnprior Library’s Art Corridor in the lower level. The library has several game boards and provides a cup of coffee for Adult players.
Tomorrow: Wednesday Baby Rhyme Time. Join the Library for its midweek story time of giggles and fun for babies and their caregivers. The event happens from 1130-Noon in Scharf Hall. Registration is required for this 6 week session which features stories, rhymes and of course lots of bubbles. Signup is underway, and you require valid library cards for both you and your baby to successfully register.
A Community Chess Club meet-up takes place from Noon-5PM in the Art Corridor of the Arnprior Public Library. This is an informal meetup for all ages and skill levels.
A Therapy Dog Visit happens every Wednesday from 3-330PM at the Arnprior Public Library as Clancy and his handler Angela to meet with library visitors. Clancy is a happy Glen of Imaal Terrier. His breed is originally from Ireland. They were farm dogs and used for hunting fox and badger. Stop by to meet Clancy as he gains more community hours through the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program in partnership with the Arnprior Public Library.
LEGO Lounge takes place in the Main Community Hall of the Arnprior Public Library from 345-445PM for children ages 5 and up. This free drop-in program enables children to build with our extensive LEGO collection, and then have their creation placed on display in the library. Snacks are provided. Attending children need to present their Arnprior Library card.
Take Note: The Arnprior and District Museum invites you to the Fibre Arts Drop In, to occur on Sunday June 14th at 2PM as local Spinner and Weaver Jenny Croft will lead a free, family-friendly public fibre arts drop in. Find out about the Museum’s new loom and spinning equipment that are available for public use.
Mississippi Mills:
Today: Tuesday, May 5th is known as Red Dress Day. The Mississippi Mills All My Relations and Ginawaydaganuc Village invite the community to come together in ceremony of remembrance, reflection and action at the Mississippi Mills Public Library, Almonte Branch starting at 2PM. This day will honour the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people, while creating space for learning, dialogue and community connection. The event will be guided by Elder Barbara Brant, Turtle Clan, Mohawk Nation from Tyendinaga. At 2PM, Elder Barbara will open the day with a ceremony. From 3:30-5:30PM, youth are especially encouraged to join a guided roundtable discussion. Organizers thank the Mississippi Mills Public Library and Turtle Lodge Trading Post for their support in bringing this event to the community.
Tomorrow: How to Help Your Teen with Anxiety. Participate in the Fear Less Triple P Workshop via online ZOOM Wednesdays through June 3rd from 6-730PM. Cost: $20 or free based on self identified need. Today: The Carleton Place Community Lunch takes place from Noon-1PM at Zion Memorial Church, 37 Franklin Street.

An Evening Art Lounge at the Library happens from 6=7PM. Bring your art and meet new people.

The Cookbook Book Club meets at the Carleton Place Public Library, 101 Beckwith, from 630-730PM. This month’s theme is “Appetizers”. Make a small batch of your favourite, and bring it to our meeting!
The Horticultural Society Monthly Meeting happens from 7-9PM at Zion Memorial United Church, 37 Franklin Street. Topic is Thoughtful Gardening: Design Ideas for Any Space, presented by Speaker: Nicole Ropars.
Membership fees are $15.00/Annually. Individual guests can attend for $5.00/Meeting.
