UPDATE: The MNRF downgraded the fire from “being held” to “under control” on Wednesday night.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says they are on top of the wildfire currently burning north of Hurds Lake.
Information Officer Sydney says the fire is currently being held by the MNRF, meaning that it is not expected to grow beyond the 6.2 hectare boundary that it has burned since local firefighters responded just off of High Lane before noon on Tuesday, April 28th.
Rain in the forecast starting on Wednesday evening will likely help keep the fire contained, and Morgan-Gervais believes the long-range forecast will help keep the chance of a flare-up low.
She also wants to remind the public that the ministry’s rules for outdoor burning have been in effect since the start of the month and that early spring is primetime for grass fires as soon as the snow melts.
MNRF rangers and local firefighters will continue an investigation into the fire as efforts to extinguish the blaze continue.
