There’s a Mississippi Mills connection to this year’s Oscars; Pakenham’s own Emily Paige, now based in Montreal, and her husband Dan were part of the production team for the film, The Girl Who Cried Pearls.
It was chosed Best Animated Short Film at the 98th Academy Awards Sunday.
The 17-minute stop motion film was created by Montreal filmmakers Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski and produced by the National Film Board of Canada.
It tells a dark and beautiful fairy tale about a girl whose tears turn into pearls, exploring themes of love, loss, and greed.
Mayor Christa Lowry has been so helpful as to provide us a link: https//www.nfb.ca/film/the-girl-who-cried-pearls/
See if you can spot Emily’s name in the credits!
