After a massive success in helping our community’s pet owners care for their furry friends last year, the Neuter Scooter rides again.
CARE Animal Rescue’s Linda Gervais explains that they are working with the Renfrew County branch of the Ontario SPCA for another shuttle service sending local cats to Brockville for affordable spay and neuter procedures on April 8th.
The service was such a hit last year that next month’s trip is already almost fully booked, and a second one is in the works.
While the SPCA is the driving force behind the Neuter Scooter, the local rescue has built a fantastic relationship with their Renfrew County Animal Centre to help with intake both close to their Pembroke office, as well as those further east in communities like Renfrew and Arnprior.
The SPCA has even had boots on the ground to make sure all of last year’s pets were looked after on their journey outside the Ottawa Valley.
All of the spay and neuter clinics offer same-day procedures, meaning pet owners will need to manage an early morning drop-off and evening pick-up at the Visitors Information Centre on Mask Road.
Gervais says that local pet owners already struggling with growing vet bills have been thrilled to find an option that fits their budgets.
All participating cats need to be healthy and between 12 weeks and 5 years old. Neutering a male costs $135 plus tax, while spaying a female costs $230 plus tax, with CARE Animal Rescue covering the transportation cost plus a rabies vaccination at no extra charge.
Register your cat by emailing their name, age, color, hair length, gender, and veterinarian (if they have one) to CARE Animal Rescue or by filling out this intake form ahead of March 30th.
Those who miss out on the April 8th clinic are encouraged to follow them on social media for more details about a second clinic tentatively set for June.
