Ottawa Fire Services report crews battled a fire in Constance Bay early this morning.
The single-storey bungalow in the 600 block of Bayview Drive was gutted, but the home’s occupant escaped thanks to the working smoke alarm.
About 1230AM, OFS Communications received multiple 9-1-1 calls advising of the visible flames.
The dwelling’s occupant knocked on a neighbour’s door and urged them to call the fire in.
Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed the home was in fact engulfed in smoke and flames and several trees around the home were burning as well.
Crews initiated a fast attack and advanced multiple hose lines towards the home. Firefighters used a water shuttle system to transport water from a nearby source using tanker trucks.
Due to the intensity of the flames, Firefighters were unable to make entry inside.
The resident and lone occupant present reported being awakened by a working smoke alarm.
They occupant sustained minor burns to their arm while escaping the home and were assessed and treated by Firefighters prior to Paramedics arrival.
A Firefighter sustained a minor injury while battling the fire. The fire was declared under control at 1:29AM. An Ottawa Fire Investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
