Time flies when you’re having fun! It’s been half a decade already since former employees Ron Smyth and James Cayen took over at Arnprior Home Hardware. The Arnprior store was originally located on Elgin Street, at the present location of Crave Bistro- but moved uptown to the present venue on Daniel Street South just before the turn of the century, it is suggested. The Home Hardware Corporation got its start in St. Jacob’s Ontario, (in the Kitchener-Waterloo area) in 1964- changing its name to Home Hardware in Canada’s Centennial year of 1967. It should not be confused with those big box stores under a similar-sounding moniker; that franchise is American. Home Hardware’s website flags its inventory as Canadian- and increasingly, there are stickers in the store that so proclaim. There are nearly 1,000 Home Hardware locations across our vast country- and each is locally owned and operated. Arnprior Home Hardware, 290 Daniel Street South.
