What’s Good in the Ottawa Valley: Pakenham Remembrance Banner Program moved to April 10th

The “Honouring Our Veterans” Banner Program is relatively new to Mississippi Mills.

Coordinator Mary Rozenberg says it’s an attraction more established in nearby communities.

Mary says the special push to publicize the program in Pakenham on Saturday, March 29th had to be postponed due to the adverse weather warnings, and will now occur on Thursday April 10th, between 330 and 630PM.

The banners recognize veterans who served our nation or Commonwealth in military struggles, and are a significant way to commemorate that contribution.

The application form includes the veteran’s name, Branch of Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, or Merchant Marine); which theatre was involved (WWI, WWII, Boer War, Crimea, Korea, Balkan, Gulf, Bosnia, Croatia, Afghanistan, UN Peacekeeping, NATO, or DART), as well as a short description of the individual’s military history).

Note: Rank will not be part of the banners, as all Veterans are being recognized as equals.

Rozenberg says by no means is the fee exorbitant.

The photo to be submitted must be a high resolution 5” x 7” (minimum size) portrait size photo of the person in uniform.

Digital photos in pdf or similar format of 300 dpi or better can also be submitted.

Should you need to digitize the photo? A scanner is available at the Pakenham Library.

Where in Pakenham will the commemorative banners be displayed?

Participants from other parts of Mississippi Mills are also welcome to submit their applications at the April 10th event.

Mary says there was a dry run for the commemorative banners last Remembrance Day.

While Remembrance Day may seem far off, the banner campaign deadline is the end of next month.
