After a mild start to the week, temperatures will cool down just in time for Horton Township to wrap up the Ottawa Valley’s Winter Carnival season with a big celebration this Saturday.
The Township’s Community Liaison Officer Rachel Eden says there’s lots to do at this Saturday’s Horton Winter Carnival, which gets underway with a $15 Shanty Breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and follows with a full day of amazing games, adventures, and prizes in and around the Castleford Road Community Centre.
Eden says the township is thrilled that the snow from this month’s winter storms has stuck around long enough for the event, even with the milder weather to start the week, adding that families will be able to enjoy horse-drawn sleigh rides, a sliding hill, a snow maze, and plenty of things happening at the outdoor rink sponsored by the Renfrew Junior A Wolves.
The township has gradually shifted the day of the event into early March over the past few years as a way to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the full slate of winter festivities across the Valley before ending the season with a slate of free activities that wouldn’t be possible without their sponsors, many of whom Eden says are returning for another year of frosty fun.
Horton Township staff have closed the outdoor rink to start this week due to warmer-than-usual weather, but events at the rink are still on until further notice as temperatures dip back below freezing this weekend.
