For 15 years, the Cobden Civitan Club has been bringing people together to have fun and raise funds for important community organizations.
This year, the annual Cobden Civitan Muskrat Lake Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1 and while the fishing portion of the event had to be cancelled the last couple of years due to weather, event co-chair Lynn Agnew says so far, the forecast is looking good.
Agnew explains that a number of local organizations will benefit, including Hospice Renfrew, CPAN, Team Challenge Canada, Phoenix Centre and local community projects.
Along with the prizes for top fish and 50/50 draws, a popular feature of the event is the huge raffle, offering up more than $15,000 in cash and prizes.
Tickets, $25, are available now and any bought by Jan. 15 qualify for some great prizes in the early bird draw.
Agnew said organizers are so grateful for the continued support of the community when it comes to putting on the derby. The businesses that sponsor the event and supply prizes never disappoint.
And adults don’t have all the fun, there’s a free kids derby sponsored by Gayle Jacques Royal Lepage
Tickets are available at a variety of locations and online.
Agnew wants to remind participants that there will be no bait for sale on day of and the club doesn’t auger holes, although usually there are enough augers and helpful anglers that those who need help get it.
Registration is at 7 a.m. and the event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
