A Level 1 Fire Ban is now in effect in Greater Madawaska.
“As departments throughout the county continue to battle grass and brush fires with increasing frequency, it is important to do everything we can to protect our beautiful township, and help our fire department to keep themselves and our communities safe,” reads a township notice.
The ban came into effect as of midnight March 28. Greater Madawaska fire crews attended to a brush fire on Grant Road earlier this week.
While a Level 1 fire ban is in effect, no person shall at any time set, maintain or allow any open air fire other than:
• campfires as described in definitions;
• enclosed barbeques fueled by propane or charcoal;
• outdoor furnaces;
• fireworks, chimineas, Chinese lanterns, ban busters; or
• or at the discretion of the Fire Chief or authorized agent.
All fire permits are suspended; no new fire permits may be issued.
