It was a big moment for Garrison Petawawa yesterday as the first of the new Armoured Combat Support Vehicles were delivered to the armed forces. The Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence was on hand for the announcement and notes that these vehicles the best of the best.
These first four vehicles are the ambulance variant, which will be equipped with medical supplies and an internal layout that will allow for the treatment of a wide range of injuries. Blair also notes that some of these new vehicles are already being put to use.
Blair says that building these vehicles supports 1,975 jobs annually in Ontario and across the country. In closing, the Defense Minister took time to thank Garrison Petawawa and it’s troops for always being on the front line.
The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Public Services and Procurement says “This project highlights investments in Canada’s domestic supply chain, and the importance of supporting good middle-class jobs. Welcoming the first ambulance variant of the Armoured Combat Support Vehicle supports our commitment in ensuring members of our Canadian Armed Forces have the modern equipment they need to do their jobs and keep Canadians safe.”
General W.D. Eyre, Chief of the Defence Staff was in attendance yesterday and says “Modernizing, renewing and improving our capabilities within the Canadian Armed Forces is essential to keep Canada safe in a world that grows more complex, and I am pleased to see the first variant of the Armoured Combat Support Vehicles project being delivered today. These ambulances, which were much needed, will provide enhanced protection for our personnel when it matters most whether they’re at home or abroad.”
