The inventor of basketball gets his dues this weekend, with a special guest speaker joining in.
Former professional basketball player and Almonte native Kory Hallas will be part of honouring Dr. James Naismith at both the 28th annual Naismith 3-on-3 tournament and his nomination to Canada’s Walk of Fame on Saturday, August 12th.
Hallas led Almonte District High School to two provincial basketball championships before playing for Eastern Michigan University from 1988 to 1992.
He would then become a fixture on both the Canadian national team and the professional circuit in Europe from 1992 to 2000, while also founding the Naismith 3-on-3 tournament in his home town.
The free event kicks off inside Gemmill Park at 3:00pm on Saturday and will also feature members of the Naismith family, the University of Ottawa Gee Gees, Canadian athlete and artist Mallory Tolcher, and more.
