Planning is well underway for the 2023 Ontario Winter Games in Renfrew County. The event was postponed in 2022 due to COVID-19 restrictions earlier this year. Games Manager Cindy Burwell says postponing the games has given them more time to make the event the best games ever.
Burwell tells myFM the Winter Games will run over two weekends in February. Opening ceremonies and sporting events will be held from February 2nd to 5th and again February 9th to 12th, 2023.
There are 18 different venues in the County of Renfrew with an estimated 800 to 1,000 volunteers that will be needed.
Burwell says they’re currently looking for web-designers, and sponsorship coordinators to volunteer. She adds starting in September there will be postings for specific roles and opportunities.
Volunteers can email info@renfrewcounty2023.ca or sign up online at renfrewcounty2023.ca.
The Ontario Winter Games is expected to draw in 2,200 athletes and 1,000 coaches to Renfrew County to compete in 23 different sports.
