The Ontario Winter Games will take over Renfrew County in just over two and a half months. The Ontario Winter Games will run from February 2nd to the 5th and again from February 9th to the 12th.
Chair of the Ontario Winter Games organizing committee, Peter Emon, says this will be an opportunity to see future National team and Olympic/Paralympic athletes competing right here in Renfrew County.
Todd Nicholson, a long-time member of Canada’s National Sledge Team, says it’s so important to have this opportunity to compete.
Nicholson competed in sledge hockey at five Paralympic Winter Games, winning bronze, silver and gold medals. Nicholson says it’s the volunteers that will make or break a games and adds Renfrew County has the right people to pull it off.
The three-time Paralympic medalist says it will not only be a great experience for the athletes and coaches, but also for the families.
The Ontario Winter Games are expected to provide a significant economic boost to the region with thousands of athletes, coaches and family members attending various sporting events across Renfrew County. The games were postponed in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now be held the first two weekends in February.
