Not every municipal inaugural meeting has the pomp and circumstance of those held in Mississippi Mills; it’s not a longstanding tradition, but for the second time in four years the event was held in the Ron Caron Auditorium of the Old Almonte Town Hall.
While just about every civic function now begins with a land acknowledgment, Elder Larry McDermott presided over a smudging ceremony which has been amended into the procedural bylaw in Mississippi Mills.
The Children’s Choir from Holy Name of Mary Catholic School performed both O Canada and a new number.
After members stated their solemn affirmations, they are considered sworn in- and acclaimed Mayor Christa Lowry made inaugural remarks.
The 2022-2026 Council, consisting of Mayor Lowry, Deputy Mayor Rickey Minnelli, Pakenham Councillor Denzil Ferguson, Almonte Councillors Jane Torrance and Mary Lou Souter, and Ramsay representatives Bev Holmes and Vicki Lowe gets down to brass tacks in December.
