McNab-Braeside Mayoral candidate Tom Peckett is seeking reelection to a post he has occupied in the Township since 2014, but he’s had an interest in local politics he inherited from his dad.
Peckett’s combined record of service to our local communities is a total of fifteen years.
He says the eight years in the Mayor’s Chair in the Township has seen lots accomplished.
On of the big announcements made during the current term concerned to relocation, to the Township, of five industries from Germany, with the promise of up to 500 jobs between them.
While supported by all 17 communities in Renfrew County, the announcement was facilitated by a Ministerial Zoning Order, which cut through a lot of red tape to move the project along.
It is another of Peckett’s proposals- a possible deal with Nova Scotia’s Sustane Technologies that is galvanizing the eelctorate in McNab-Braeside.
The plant would utilize a process called pyrolysis- using steam to treat high volumes of waste, and is being opposed by the local group, MB-ACE.
The McNab-Braeside incumbent has won a number of endorsements from peers at the Upper Tier level, including retiring Warden, Debbie Robinson.
Opposing Peckett for the Mayor’s role are former councillor Mark McKenzie, and current councillor Oliver Jacob.
