The Town of Mississippi Mills will host a community vigil Friday evening, together with the All My Relations group on the Truth and Reconciliation Holiday Friday.
Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry says people will gather outside of the Almonte Old Town Hall.
In the event of rain, the commemoration will be hosted at the Almonte United Church, at 106 Elgin Street.
An elder will provide sanctity with a ceremonial invocation.
Lowry says the attention of young minds tends to wander, but there are activities planned to reinforce their focus.
There are also commemorations being held in Carleton Place Friday, where the Library will hold a special Story Hour Friday morning at 10:30AM, and a public gathering takes place from 12:30 to 1:30PM at Riverside Park.
