The Town of Carleton Place has issued a series of Windstorm Updates, from which we glean the following information:
It is the Mayor’s prerogative to declare the State of Emergency. In consultation with the Emergency Control Group, Mayor Black does not believe one is warranted.
The only extra powers the municipality would gain would be fiscal, in the buying of goods and services.
Declaring an emergency at the municipal level is no guarantee of extra funding from senior levels of government.
The Town’s Emergency Control Group, Council, and Staff are working closely with Hydro One and Social Service Partners to provide critical services internally.
Thank you for your patience in stressful times.
The Municipal Emergency Control group meets daily at 10 AM as notified.
Staff will continue to share the latest information as it becomes available.
There are street closures necessary for Hydro One crews to restore power. The plan is to do the critical areas of Town infrastructure: the hospital, and water and wastewater treatment plants, need to be online for a controlled return to power.
Lanark Transportation is providing a FREE shuttle service from 9 AM to 6:00 PM Wednesday, to give residents the opportunity to travel to a neighbouring community to pick up groceries.
As there is limited space on the shuttle (9 maximum) and pickup times throughout the day will vary, PLEASE CALL (613) 264-8256 or 1-877-445-5777 to arrange for your space and pick up time and location for the shuttle.
Lanark County Social Services staff will be on-site at the Carleton Place Arena today from 8:00AM to 8:00PM to offer Assistance for Vulnerable Residents who are struggling due to food loss.
Also , the Lanark County Food Bank will be open today (Wednesday, May 25th) from 5 to 7PM.
With proof of residency you can dispose of yard waste from the storm at the Compost Yard, 128 Patterson Crescent from 8:00AM to 8PM Wednesday (May 25th) and then Thursday to Saturday from 8AM to 5PM.
Proof of residence will be strictly enforced.
If you have food waste to dispose of your limit on regular garbage day has been increased by one bag, and all bags cant weigh more than 15 kilograms. Double bag where necessary, and keep it in a container until collection day.
If you can’t wait until garbage day, there’s one dumpster at the Compost Yard and another at the Public Works Yard at the end of Bates Avenue in the North Industrial Park.
Take your bagged food waste for disposal to either location today from 8AM to 8PM or Thursday from 8 to 5PM.

Alternatively – Mississippi Mills is offering Carleton Place residents their showers at the Almonte Community Centre, 181 Bridge Street from 8:30AM to 9:00PM and water fill up is available both there and at the Almonte Fire Station on Almonte Street from 7AM to 7PM
Locally, the Neeland Street Arena can handle device charging (limit two devices) from 10AM to 8PM. bring your own connection cables. For residents who need potable water supplies, you can bring your own containers to the Arena for filling.
Carleton Place Firefighters are conducting wellness checks at Seniors’ residences.
If you call the Fire Department (613-257-5526, extension 0) a firefighter can check your smoke alarm or replace its batteries.
Because of the noise caused by multiple generators, the Town’s Noise By-law does not currently apply and generators are allowed to run 24/7 where needed.
Don’t hook up your generator too close to buildings as there have been numerous CO alarms going off unnecessarily because of the proximity. Ten feet away is a good rule of thumb.
If there is an emergency which you believe requires the attention of the Public Works Department, please call 613-257-2253.
Lanark OPP remind you that when you encounter a non-functioning traffic light it is to be treated as a four-way stop.
Police say impatience is causing needless accidents.
OPP are increasing their foot patrols to assist in public safety.
The Seniors Active Living Centre (132 Coleman Street) is open today (Wednesday) from 9AM to Noon to provide Seniors with an opportunity to enjoy coffee and snacks in a social atmosphere.
And to conclude with Municipal Business, the Council and Committee of the Whole meetings scheduled for Tuesday have been rescheduled to Tuesday, May 31st.
And the Culture Master Plan Public Information Centre (PIC) slated for this evening (Wednesday) is cancelled and will be rescheduled.
