The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority’s (MVCA) six conservation areas are seeing a marked increase in visitor traffic since the arrival of COVID-19.
A record 75,000 visitors passed through MVCA’s conservation areas in 2020 and numbers haven’t let up in the first few weeks of 2021.
The extra visitor traffic means more wear-and-tear on facilities and the Authority’s Board of Directors has thus approved an increase to the site fee at Morris Island Conservation Area (MICA) to $6/vehicle.
By paying a site fee, visitors directly contribute to maintenance of washrooms, beautification of the sites, trails and grounds upkeep as well as bridges and boardwalks.
Site fees at all other conservation areas remain the same, and the new Carp River Conservation Area continues to be free of charge.
Annual passes, the most cost-effective option, can be purchased online for $47 + HST.
