Lanark County has been gifted with almost 90 acres of land that borders on its community forest properties.
The land is wooded, with an existing loop trail that abuts the county-owned section of the Tay-Havelock Trail in Tay Valley Township.
It is a gift from Mrs. Janet Conboy, who indicates she wished to donate the recreational land to be used as a public trail.
County of Lanark Chief Administrative Officer Kurt Greaves says Conboy and her late spouse, Donald F. Conboy, enjoyed the property for many years and wished to see it enjoyed by their community in perpetuity.
County staff will be working on enhancing existing trails and entrances and giving consideration to potential parking areas and other details in the coming months.
The property borders the Tay-Havelock Trail about 700 m west of Cameron Side Road.
Lanark County owns and operates 91 kilometres of trails and 11,500 acres of community forests.
There are five community forest properties in Tay Valley, but this is the first in the geographical Township of Bathurst.
