Darrel O’Shaugnessy took the long road to reach Arnprior.
Although his birth-community of Bancroft is only 157 kilometres as the crow flies, Darrel and his spouse Betty arrived in Town only in 2011.
Darrell had careers at Atomic Energy of Canada, where he lived in Deep River.
A second career with the Ontario Provincial Police saw him then diversify into the Security and technology industry, and it was in Kelowna BC that O’Shaugnessy retired.
Betty and Darrel wanted to follow the gypsy winds, and enjoy their new-found freedom by living a couple of years in various Canadian communities before moving on down the road.
Lucky for thus, that never happened.
Initially, the couple promoted and established dragon boating in Arnprior.
The move led to Darrel being conscripted to act as President for the Greater Arnprior Seniors’ Council, the establishment of the Seniors’ Active Living Centre- and Darrel’s favourite pass-time centre, the Men’s Shed.
