The Upper Canada District School Board has appointed a new Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. The Upper Canada District School Board covers schools from Pakenham to Gananoque and past Cornwall to the Quebec border. Director of Education Stephen Sliwa announced last week that Superintendent Jeremy Hobbs will fully transition into this role in February 2020. The Director of Education says as part of his promotion, Hobbs will perform the duties of the Executive Superintendent of Business Services, overseeing finance, purchasing, student transportation, occupational health and safety, community use of schools, planning, information technology and facilities. Hobbs joined the board as Chief Information Officer in 2004, assumed responsibilities for facilities operations and design and construction in 2007, and then added the human resources portfolio in 2014. Superintendent Hobbs replaces former Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Robert Backstrom who passed away in September following a lengthy illness.
