Throughout the Valley, and likely across Canada, municipalities are approving requests to declare this coming Saturday British Home Child Day.
The Town of Arnprior took the step at is municipal meeting Monday, while Mississippi Mills passed its resolution on September 17th.
Mayor Christa Lowry says a member of the community brought the story of the British Home Children to her attention.
From 1869 to 1948 the numbers of resettled children are staggering – over 100 thousand kids were resettled in this country.
Lowry says these children often survived exploitative conditions in making their contribution to Canada.
The move to recognize British Home Child Day stems from unanimous passage (a rarity) in the House of Commons of a resolution by MP Guy Lauzon in February of 2018.
