The Township of McNab/Braeside is mourning the sudden passing of longtime councillor Robert “Bobby” Campbell, a man remembered as much for his kindness as his decades of community involvement.
Outgoing Mayor Lori Hoddinott says the news has left council members stunned.
Campbell served two terms on township council, from 2010 to 2014 and again from 2022 to 2026.
His roots in McNab/Braeside stretched back more than 200 years, with generations of his family farming the same land. He also spent approximately 26 years as a foreman at Gillies Mill.
Hoddinott says Campbell’s compassion extended well beyond public service.
Known for his practical approach to solving problems, Campbell was equally comfortable around the council table or sharing stories with friends over coffee.
Hoddinott says his influence reached generations of local residents.
Flags at township facilities have been lowered to half-mast in his honour and the municipality has extended condolences to Campbell’s family and friends.
