On October 24th, Ghosts, Ghouls, Witches and Wizards took over downtown Arnprior for the 5th annual Witch Walk.
The event saw a massive turnout. Tina Carr, Organizer of the walk and owner of Tina’s Studio on Madawaska Street, says she estimates thousands came out to participate, whether in the event directly or a part of the day’s Halloween festivities.
Carr has 250 Halloween passports ready for the day and all had been handed out in 40 minutes. The event draws people from all over to attend and enjoy the day.
The Walk isn’t only fun, it also helps the community. This year, the event collected food and donations for three community programs in Arnprior and Carr says she was extremely happy to give back.
Carr’s Witch Walk also collected food for The Longer Table in Arnprior, as well as, the Arnprior Public Library’s food program for kids. She says it’s extremely important for people to eat and that there’s no shame in needing help.
The winner of this year’s walk is a young entrepreneur from Arnprior, who’s going to school in North Bay, but made the trip specifically to come back and participate. Katie White, owner of Unicorn Kitty Balloons, went out and made it back within an hour and a half with the entire passport completed.
Carr says White is very involved in the Arnprior community.
In the end, the event creates an amazing day of fun, excitement, and it helps in multiple ways. Donating to community organizations, supporting small businesses, creating a free event for everyone to come out and each year, it just grows in size. Carr is extremely thankful for all the help everyone has given over the years to make this event so special.
