The Royal Canadian Legion’s Renfrew branch is looking for more volunteers to help with its annual poppy campaign this weekend.
With Remembrance Day approaching, commemorative poppies are available at businesses throughout the community, with donations supporting programs and initiatives for local veterans and their families.
Jessica Thompson, secretary-treasurer of Legion Branch 148, says volunteers are still needed to cover donation-box shifts at several locations in Renfrew and Calabogie this Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31.
Anyone willing to lend a hand is encouraged to sign up, whether they can spare an hour or commit to a full two-hour shift. Proceeds from the National Poppy Campaign go toward initiatives that support veterans and their families.
Thompson says the Renfrew Legion on Raglan Street South is also a good place to learn about other ways to honour those who have served.
Those interested in volunteering can sign up by visiting the Renfrew Legion and adding their name to the shift calendar. The first shifts begin at noon on Friday.
