Hayley Heaslip wants the town of Renfrew to focus not only on their spending priorities but also on the sources of their funding.
The current acting chair of the Renfrew Public Library Board, Heaslip has first-hand experience in the town’s budgeting process earlier this year when she took the lead on defending the library’s current budget in front of council earlier this year.
If elected, she wants to champion a new policy to ensure every budget item over a certain dollar value has been properly researched before they come in front of council.
Heaslip is also closely watching the town’s progress with repairing and repaving its roadways, as she feels the conversation often centres on which roads need priority despite already having a complete assessment of the town’s infrastructure in place.
She says the discussion should instead be on what funds are available to make it happen.
Among her other key issues is building a stronger sense of pride and town spirit within the community to help families reconnect, especially as more seniors face loneliness and isolation.
Something as simple as a block party she hosted within her own neighbourhood last year is proof that stronger bonds make for a more welcoming and supportive environment for people to live in.
Hayley Heaslip is one of ten candidates running for six at-large council seats in Renfrew, alongside Bruce Rozycki, John McDonald, Sandi Heins, Clint McWhirter, Kate Windle, Bruce Rozycki, Guy Longtin, Andrew Dick, Scott Miller, and Kyle Cybulski.
