If you think horsepower only comes from under the hood of a truck, think again.
Some of the biggest and most powerful horses in Eastern Ontario will be putting on a show at the Carp Fair Friday, September 25, as teams compete for a provincial championship and a share of more than $40,000 in prize money.
Among those hoping to bring home the title are the McLaughlin Clydesdales of Haley Station, who have earned a spot in the Ontario Four Horse Hitch Series’ Supreme Championship after a summer of competition across the region.
The event will feature ten elite four-horse hitch teams from Ontario, Quebec, and Northern New York, each showcasing their strength, teamwork, and elegance.
This year also marks a milestone for the Ontario Four championship, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary and bringing its season-ending finals to Eastern Ontario for the first time.
Joining the McLaughlin Clydesdales in the competition will be Harvest Hill Belgians from North Gower and Pana-Len Percherons from Metcalfe.
The championship gets underway at approximately 7:15 p.m. Friday at the Carp Fairgrounds, where spectators can expect plenty of thunderous hoofbeats, impressive teamwork, and a showcase of agricultural tradition at its finest.
