Renfrew County residents have come through in a big way for the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
Participants in this Saturday’s Kidney Walk in Pembroke have more than doubled the fundraising goal, raising over $30,000 on a goal of $14,000.
Jennifer Heale, the Kidney Foundation’s Senior Regional Manager of Community Fundraising Development says a lot of the same families come back year after year but they’ve also seen tremendous growth in new support from residents across Renfrew County.
Heale invites more people to get involved by registering for the event at kidneywalk.ca.
Funds go to medical research and also to fund the programs and services the Kidney Foundation offers, such as peer support and short term financial assistance for low income patients for medication and transportation to and from dialysis.
The idea behind the walk is to not only to fundraise, but also to rally in support of those living with kidney disease.
Heale says it’s best to register online ahead of time, but there will be room for more walkers to register at 10am on Saturday.
The five kilometre walk begins at 11 am at the Pembroke Riverwalk Ampitheatre and there will be a celebratory lunch for those registered immediately following the walk.
