Police have released a description of a suspect wanted in connection with a stabbing in Deep River that left one person with life-threatening injuries.
The Ontario Provincial Police and Deep River Police Service say officers responded to reports of a serious assault in the area of McElligott Drive at about 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 9.
The injured person was transported to hospital.
Investigators say the person responsible remains at large and are asking the public for help identifying and locating the suspect.
Police describe the suspect as a tall, thin, white or light-skinned male who was wearing light-coloured pants and a dark-coloured hoodie.
Police are advising anyone who sees someone matching the description not to approach them, but to contact police instead.
Investigators are also clarifying that a person wearing construction clothing who was reportedly in the area around the time of the assault is not believed to be responsible. Police say the clarification is intended to address information circulating publicly and keep investigative efforts focused on relevant information.
Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Crime Unit and Deep River Police Service continue to investigate under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services.
Police say residents and businesses around Glendale Avenue, McElligott Drive and surrounding neighbourhoods should review security, doorbell and dash-camera footage recorded on Sept. 9.
Anyone with information or relevant video is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
Renfrew County Victim Services is also offering support to people affected by the incident at 343-361-3269 or 1-877-568-5730.
